Lizzie Douglas (Memphis Minnie) was born in Louisiana on June 3, 1897 and died of a stroke in Memphis, Tennessee on August 6, 1973. She was a prolific blues singer, guitarist and song writer, recording on a number of labels during her long career.

Minnie recorded for Chess in 1952. Singles from the session included “Broken Heart” and a re-recording of “Me and My Chauffeur Blues.” In 1980, Memphis Minnie was one of the first 20 artists inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
