We now understand the real name of Bama the Village Poet was George McCord. No biographical information is available. This album was subsequently re-released on other labels (as pictured). For his Chess sessions he was accompanied by Bernard Purdie, Richard Tee, and Cornell Dupree among others.

Spencer and Spencer

Argo Records released a wide variety of recordings, and one of those strands of variety was satire. Spencer and Spencer’s Argo single “Russian Band Stand” is a satire recorded at the height of the Cold War on the contemporary television show and what would happen if the Russians took it over. Spencer and Spencer were Dickie Goodman and Mickey Shorr. Goodman was a song writer and Shorr was a radio disc jockey. Goodman became a senior executive at 20th Century Records.
