Saxophonist Benjamin Clarence “Bullmoose” Jackson was born in 1919 and died on on July 31, 1989. He switched to the saxophone after first learning the violin. He formed his first band in his teens and had a number of rhythm and blues hits in the 1940s and 1950s. He was signed to the Marterry Label, which became Argo and then Cadet, in 1956, but did not stay with Chess for long. We are not aware of US release numbers for his recordings for Marterry. He is best known for his earlier recordings for the King label.
