Song writer and singer Sidney Alexander Barnes, Jr. was born in 1941 and is understood to be living. He was one of the lead singers, with Minnie Ripperton, in Rotary Connection. With George Kerr, Sidney became one of the main writers for Motown’s New York Office in 1962. In 1964 George Kerr and Sidney parted company, and Sidney began working with J.J. Jackson, served as staff writers at New York’s Sue label, writing hits for The Soul Sisters and Inex and Charlie Foxx. Mr Barnes has recorded for a number of labels and is regarded as a legend of Northern Soul Music.
