Rhythm and blues singer and sportsman Arthur Lee Maye was born on December 11, 1934 and died on July 17, 2002. He had started singing with The Crowns in the 1950s. That was hardly surprising since his school friends went on to join The Platters, The Penguins and other groups. During the 1960s he was a full time sports player with the Milwaukee Braves who also made recordings, often with Huey P Meaux. He called himself a singing athlete.
