Johnny Williams was born on January 15, 1942 and moved to Chicago in 1956 with his family. His singing and songwriting came to the attention of legendary radio presenters sic, Williams was managed by Pervis Spann and E. Rodney Jones at the Chess owned radio station WVON. His first record was issued on Chess. He was more successful as a singer in the 1970s when he recorded for the Philadelphia International label and is best known for his hit recording of “Slow Motion”.
Note. Some web sites confuse him with Johnny Lee Williams of The Drifters, who is a completely different person who replaced Ben E King in The Drifters and who died in 1986.
