Orchestra leader Benjamin David “Benny” Goodman was born on May 30, 1909 and died on June 13, 1986 of a heart attack. The single released on Chess 1742, “Mission to Moscow” was recorded in 1958 and taken from a Chess LP called “Benny Rides Again” – which was also Chess’ first stereo LP. The orchestra featured on the set had a stellar line up of jazz and classical musicians, which included André Previn, Pepper Adams, Herb Geller, Barney Kessel and Shelly Manne. Benny Goodman played clarinet on all tracks.
