Jazz singer and multi-instrumentalist Valaida Snow was born on June 2, 1904 and died on May 30, 1956 of a brain hemorrhage. Her main successes were in the 1930s and she toured extensively in Europe. While touring through Denmark in 1941, she was arrested by the Nazis and imprisoned, before being released on a prisoner exchange in May 1942.
