Singer, songwriter, record producer and record company executive Donnie Elbert was born on May 25, 1936 and died on January 26, 1989 of a heart attack, aged just 52. He is probably best known for his early R&B hit “A little piece of leather” and his distinctive vocal style. During the years 1966 to 1969 Donnie lived and married in the UK. He became director of A&R for Polygram’s Canadian division. His recordings remain perennial favourites in the UK.
