William “Willie” Lee Perryman, also known as Piano Red and Dr. Feelgood, was born on October 19, 1911 and died on July 25, 1985 of cancer. He began playing in bands in the 1930s. He adopted the name Piano Red in 1936. His first successful recording was in 1950. During the mid 1950s Perryman worked as a disc jockey on stations WGST and WAOK. He toured extensively in Europe and became a friend of the Rolling Stones.
