Songwriter, music producer and bandleader Arthur “Artie” Singer was born on February 1, 1919 and died on May 2, 2008. He is best known as the co-writer and producer of the hit songs “At the Hop” and “Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay” by Danny & the Juniors. In 2008 he revealed that he had had to pay “payola” to get the recordings promoted. At the time (1957-58) Payola was not illegal.
