Jazz musician Herbie Fields was born on May 24, 1919 and died on September 17, 1958 following an overdose of sleeping pills. After serving with US Forces in World War II, he moved towards R&B music and is associated with Earl Bostic and others. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of rock and roll music but never achieved great success.
