Joe Hill Louis | Ace Records | tc215

One of the few successful blues one-man-bands, Lester (or Leslie) Hill (Joe Hill Louis) was born on September 23, 1921 and died on August 5, 1957 from tetanus contracted as a result of an infected cut to his thumb, sustained while working as an odd job man. He recorded for a number of labels but was recording for Sun as a session man as well as in his own name, in the early 1950s. Louis is understood to play lead guitar on Rufus Thomas’ Sun recording of “Bear Cat”. In 1950 he took over B B King’s disc jockey role on WDIA, Memphis.
