Jazz organist Shirley Scott, “The Queen of the Organ”, was born on March 14, 1934 and died on March 10, 2002 of heart failure caused by diet drugs. She is associated musically with her husband, Stanley Turrentine, and with Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis. She recorded for Cadet Records in the late 1960s. She played piano and trumpet before switching to the Hammond Organ.
