Jazz musician (tenor saxophone) and band leader Albert J. Johnson (Budd Johnson) was born on 14 December 1910 and died on 20 October 1984. He had a long career and was associated with Earl Hines, Billie Holliday and Count Basie, and others. During the 1950s he was providing orchestrations for Atlantic Records – he is the featured soloist on Ruth Brown’s hit, “Teardrops from My Eyes”. He was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1993.
