The Avantis are a bit of a mystery group, but are mainly famous for their original version of “Keep on Dancing” which was re-recorded a couple of years later by Memphis group The Gentrys. The photo shows five young gentlemen, but in the book “Walk don’t run – the story of The Ventures” (Opens Google Books) Del Halterman states that the group consisted of session musicians (and brothers) Pat, Danny and Lolly Vegas and Garry Leeds (drummer). The group also recorded in different styles under different names, including a surf music group called The Sharks!
