Howard McGhee was born on March 6, 1918 and died on July 17, 1987. With Dizzy Gillespie, he was one of the first bebop jazz trumpeters, known for lightning-fast fingers and very high notes. During his career, he played in bands led by Lionel Hampton, Andy Kirk, Count Basie and Charlie Barnet. His recording “House Warmin’ – Part 1/Part 2” was issued on Argo 5422.
