Edward Boatner Jnr (Sonny Stitt) was born on February 2, 1924 and died on July 22, 1982 of a heart attack. He was a famous saxophonist who recorded over 100 albums and was nicknamed the “Lone Wolf” by jazz critic Dan Morgenstern in reference to his relentless touring and devotion to jazz. He also became a member of the all-star group Giants of Jazz with Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Kai Winding and Al McKibbon.
