Country music singer Baldemar Garza Huerta (Freddy Fender) was born on June 4, 1937 and died on October 14, 2006 of lung cancer and after a long illness and a failed transplant. He is best known for his hits hits “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” and “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights”. He also recorded rockabilly music under the name of Eddie Con Los Shades. Huerta spent 3 years in Angola Prison from 1959 to 1962 on a drugs charge.
