Talmadge “Tab” Smith was born on January 11, 1909 and died on August 17, 1971. He was a rhythm and blues alto saxophonist who had played with the Count Basie and other orchestras before launching his own career. He recorded for Checker in the 1950s. “My happiness cha cha” and “Smoke gets in your eyes” were issued on the London American label. He retired from the music business in the early 1960s to become a real estate agent.
