Walter Horton, better known as Big Walter Horton or Walter “Shakey” Horton, was born on April 6, 1917 and died on December 8, 1981 from heart failure. He was one of the foremost players of blues harmonica. Horton replaced Junior Wells in Muddy Waters’ band for a time. Horton’s solo on Jimmy Rogers’ 1956 Chess recording “Walking By Myself” is widely regarded as his best work – and the pinnacle of blues harmonica work.
