Bobby McClure was born on April 21, 1942 and died on November 13, 1992 of a brain aneurysm and complications from a stroke.
McClure grew up in St. Louis and sang in church and gospel groups in his youth, and with The Soul Stirrers in the 1950s, with Sam Cooke, and other bands into the 1960s. He joined the Oliver Sain Revue where he met Fontella Bass and which led to his contract with Checker records.
After his career in music, he became a prison officer, but continued to record occasionally.
