The “Soul Queen of New Orleans” Irma Lee (Irma Thomas) was born on February 18, 1941 and has recorded extensively, and for a short time, for Chess Records. She first recorded for Specialty Records when in a gospel choir, age 13. After a long spell with Imperial and Minit records, during which she recorded many of her classic songs, she recorded for Chess between 1967 and 1968. She is still performing.
