Ralph Thomas Williams (Tony Clarke) was born on April 13, 1940 and died on August 28, 1971 when he was shot by his estranged wife. As well as a singer, he was a successful song writer for Chess, contributing “Pushover” and “Two sides to every story” for Etta James and other songs were written for David Ruffin and The Vibrations. He recorded about a dozen singles for Chess. He was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame on 4 October 2015.

There is some dispute over his real name.
