Koko Taylor was born on September 28, 1928 and died on June 3, 2009 of complications from surgery for gastrointestinal bleeding. She was talent spotted by Willie Dixon and signed to Chess Records in 1965. The release of Wang Dang Doodle was very successful, selling more than a million copies. Unfortunately similar success proved elusive. Nevertheless she remained a very popular artist, releasing records for many years and acquiring many awards for her performances.
Ms Taylor established the Koko Taylor Celebrity Aid Foundation to provide social services to the arts and entertainment industry.
